The Office
What began as a wild idea opened the door (no pun intended) to an evolution of my office setup and teaching studio. Inspired by three life events of varying innocence, I sought to create the ultimate space to teach, to think, and—in the absence of those—to sleep. After endless confrontations with common sense, trigonometry, door mechanics, and Home Depot's return policy, here is the result.
Remote Teaching
I move around a lot when I teach. I like to think it keeps things exciting, but fundamentally I also just can't sit still. With the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I wanted a way to keep classes exciting over Zoom, rather than just screen-sharing and talking through slides. The result: a work-around of about four different pieces of software and even more hardware. Many USB adapters, a sheet of steel, and lots of green tape later, here is a demonstration.
Facecode
I've been taking a picture of my face every day since September 18, 2008 (alternate spelling "pre-pu-bes-cent"). For my senior project at MIT, I wrote MATLAB code to align these pictures. I've since rewritten Facecode from the ground up in Python, adding several features along the way. This is the result at the fifteen-year mark: 2023.
